Staycation Outfit Ideas
Just because travel between countries is restricted at the moment, doesn’t mean you can’t have a holiday. Luckily there are plenty of beautiful UK destinations that we can travel to safely and in line with social distancing measures. Whether you’re planning a week-long trip or a long weekend, to help plan your holiday wardrobe, we’ve put together our favourite holiday outfits. All are perfect for UK get-aways, and work well as versatile combinations you can mix and match to keep the size of your luggage down.
Summery Co-ords
Co-ords are great for your holiday wardrobe because as well as wearing them as a complete outfit, you can mix and match them with other items too (ideal for mixing up outfits in your holiday snaps!). Gemma Talbot is wearing a gorgeous skirt co-ord here but co-ords come in nearly every style. For your Summer holiday wardrobe, you’ll probably want a patterned one because monotone co-ords can be more formal, but this depends on the kind of trip you’re going on as well as your own individual style.
Complete White Out
Head-to-toe white can make you feel Summery even on a gray Summer’s day. Emma Worthington went all white with this beautiful co-ord while Hannah Crosskey and Ruby Holley (below) show us how this can work with skirt and trouser combos. White outfits look really classy, and again each piece can be paired with other items to create completely different outfits.
Oversized Dresses
Still in white, Ruby Holley shows us how oversized dresses can be dressed down with a flat shoe. If black is your colour, Amelia Taylor is wearing the same look, completed with sneakers, shoulder bag and sunnies:
And remember dresses like these can double up as dinner attire too – simply accessorise with a more formal sandal or heeled shoe, clutch bag and jewelry. For more inspiration on the best Summer dresses for 2020 and how to style them, view our recent post dedicated to this.
Jump Suits
Who doesn’t love an all-in-one outfit? Jumpsuits are great as both day outfits and into the evening – they can feel like a more masculine, streamlined option if you don’t like wearing a dress. Complete your holiday look with casual flip flops and stylish sunnies like Hannah Crosskey:
Crop Top Combinations
High-waisted jeans made a comeback in 2015 and we’ve not looked back since! Whether you’re looking for jeans, a skirt or trousers, they’ll be high-waisted options in almost any shop now. Create a borrowed-from-the-boys approach, with a cropped tee and oversized trousers – Melis Ekrem has nailed smart casual with her version of this below – or balance a boyfriend style trouser with a flirty gypsy crop top like Liv Blankson did (also below). Don’t worry about getting chilly either (we are talking about the Great British Summer, after all!) – a shirt, or light jacket can complete the look, rather than detract from it.
Alternative Ways To Wear Cozzies
If you’re sad you might not be able to wear your favourite swimming costume this year, fear not! There are lots of reasons why incorporating swimwear into your holiday wardrobe is an inspired and stylish idea. Firstly, you can travel to the beach or sun lounger in style, secondly, swimsuits create a contrast to loose-fitting, floaty outfit components and it also means you can enjoy wearing your favourite costumes more than a few times a year! There’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t wear a swimming costume as a bodysuit. Pair one with maxi skirts, paper bag shorts or trousers.
Playful Prints
Vibrant, bold and floral print add Summer vibes to any outfit. And it’s time to get playful with your prints! Don’t be afraid to deliberately clash them – oversized polka dots look fabulous with smaller floral prints for example. The only rule is contrast: pairing two finer and ‘fussier’ prints won’t work as well.
Skirt And Trainers
We love the skirt and sneaker trend and it’s perfect as a holiday outfit. You can feel dressed up enough to go out for a meal while remaining comfortable and cool exploring towns and going for walks. White or cream trainers are best for Summer looks and they can also be worn with all outfits because they’re easy to match. Don’t rule out this with your evening skirts either – pairing a more formal style skirt with trainers can transform an evening item into a day outfit. See Lydia Tomlinson’s look (below) in her ‘White Trainers 6 Ways’ video.
